Now for the more personal stuff. I live in London and also spend a chunk
of time every year in Cape Town where I have had a home for 14 years. In
Cape Town, I learnt to dance, saw many Bushman paintings and discovered
places no other 4x4 had ever been (well, few). I still want to learn horse
riding, archery and survival in the desert. Happiness is driving along
a dirt road somewhere in the hills and dancing ‘langarm’ at the weekends.
Being barefoot and having rugged landscape around me is just the best (the
R332 will tell you the kind of scenery I like). South Africa is the place
I go for sanity breaks.
What else?
I like languages and linguistic enclaves (loved Transylvania, Lithuania
here I come), ancient and mediaeval towns (Konstanz and Sighisoara), choral
music (Gregorian chants through to Rachmaninov’s Vespers), national costumes,
and wordplay. There are many best places on the planet, including the Karoo,
die Weskus and the Seweweekespoort. Go to the gym frequently when I am
able to, collect air miles and believe in the influence of good thinking
(What the bleep…). Baha’i, Lycopodium, itinerant scholar, divorced, Star
Wars and Shrek fan.
I want to
make a difference. Most of my work is along these lines, and I get a buzz
from seeing people develop alternatives and do things differently (and,
for them, a better way). I get passionate about personal change and improvement,
and believe that everyone can have a happier or more fulfilled life. If
it’s me who helps that to happen, so much the better. I am currently training
in healing in the South African tradition (to be a sangoma).
